Tom Brokaw Awarded Girard-Perregaux 1966 Watch For His Support In Fighting Cancer

tom-brokaw-picture.jpgFamous national journalist Tom Brokaw has been gifted with a watch that suits his gentlemanly, reserved demeanor to a tee. As a result of his contributions to combating cancer, Mr. Brokaw now owns an exclusive Girard-Perregaux 1966 timepiece. The watch was presented to him at the recent Circle 1000 Brunch, which took place on April 18, in Costa Mesa, CA. What a fantastic way to be recognized!

The Girard-Perregaux 1966 watch is one of the finest “true” dress timepieces available today (as opposed to watches which people press into dressy situations, that aren’t really so). I well recall my first “in the metal” impression of 1966 watch, and remembered thinking how flawlessly all the details came together–elements such as the curved opaline dial, the gorgeous leaf-shaped hour and minute hands, and the slender blued steel sweep seconds hand. Dimensions are also ideal; this is a wonderfully slim watch, with a beautifully simple and finely finished case. At 38mm, it most certainly isn’t oversized, but as the name suggests, the Girard-Perregaux 1966 pays tribute to an era when classicism was something that people placed great value upon.

In all honesty, I can’t really envision Tom Brokaw (as I imagine the guy from his public personality–who knows, maybe he’s a party animal off the set) wearing something oversized and super-sporty like Girard Perregaux’s R&D 01. The 1966, on the other hand, is the perfect Girard-Perregaux watch to accompany this courteous yet stoic news figure-–I wonder if we’ll be able to catch a glimpse of Brokaw’s elegant new watch under his cuff during a future broadcast?
