The Other Sapphires

sapphire-necklace2.jpgGenerally, when people hear the word “sapphire”, they think blue, but the truth is, sapphire gemstones are available in a wide spectrum of colors.  Though the word was originally used to refer to a variety of blue gemstones (including what’s now known as Lapis Lazuli), sapphire today indicates that a gemstone is a variety of the mineral corundum.

The exception to this rule is that red corundum material is refered to as Ruby, though technically, there is no difference between Ruby and Sapphire gemstone material aside from the color.  Sapphire is one of the hardest gemstones in the world, which makes it very practical for daily wear.  This is why fine timepiece manufacturers use sapphire crystals to protect watch faces.

I chose to write about this topic because we have recently received an exceptional purple and pink sapphire necklace.  This piece is absolutely stunning and displays vibrant pink and purple color.  With nearly 74 carats of sapphires and 3.74 carats of diamonds, this is a truly extraordinary necklace.

If you’re looking for something unique and gorgeous that is a little outside the box, and you like vibrant colors, this necklace may just be the one for you.
