Gurhan Shows His True Colors

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

gurhan-jewelry2.jpgNothing is more captivating than the gleaming radiance of pure 24k gold, and no jewelry designer showcases this unique beauty better than Gurhan Orhan.  Gurhan  is known throughout the world as the king of 24k gold jewelry, and his designs show a passion and reverence for gold that is extraordinary.  Through his jewelry designs, we are reminded of just how precious and unique gold is.

As with any great artist, Gurhan has progressed in his craft.  Over the years, he has learned to incorporate various materials into his gold jewelry designs ranging from rough cut gemstones to ancient artifacts.  Whereas his early designs display minor accents which maintain a focus on gold as the focal point, some of his more recent creations boldly display stunning colored gemstones.

March and April have seen a flurry of Gurhan gemstone jewelry designs being featured in publications such as Town & Country, Veranda and  Palm Beach Illustrated.  From coral to opal and pink tourmaline, these designs show Gurhan embracing vibrant gemstone colors and melding them with his signature 24k gold in new and exciting designs.

For Gurhan collectors, these new jewelry creations offer a wonderful way to breath new life into your jewelry wardrobe while maintaining a consistent style and aesthetic.  As always, the quality and craftsmanship of these designs is second to none.

Bell & Ross BR 03 Instrument Type Aviation Watch: When Quartz Technology Shines

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Bell-Ross- BR03-Type-Aviation-1.jpgBelittling quartz watches is an occasional past time of mechanical watch snobs.  Hell, I’ve been there myself–denigrating these precise but “soulless” movements that nearly killed off the charming ticking of the mechanical watch industry in the 1970’s.  However, I don’t do that much anymore.  That could be because mechanical watches are anything but an endangered these days, but it also reflects my grudging admiration for what quartz technology can offer–particularly in fantastic sports timepieces like the Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Instrument Type Aviation watch.

Complications are an absolute delight in fine mechanical timepieces.  When it comes to sports watches, however, complications also present a potential problem: for every added function, you have more parts.  That in turn means a greater likelihood of malfunction or breakage–particularly under demanding wearing situations.  Quartz watches, with their functions entirely governed by electronics, have no such hangups.  They can be as complex and multi-function as all gets out, and shake off the roughest usage with casual disregard.

That brings us right back to the multi-function Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Instrument Type Aviation, which is a dream come true for anyone seeking a tough and extremely utilitarian luxury watch.  A precise twist of the winding crown instantly enables you to select from the various digital functions, which include an alarm, a chronograph, a countdown timer and a second time zone display.  The brilliant luminous material on the dial hands and indexes contribute to the sober good looks of this stealthy watch.  As an added bonus, the graduated rotating bezel of the Type Aviation can be found on no other Bell & Ross BR Instrument model.

This daily barrage of negativity takes its toll on our morale and daily disposition. But it’s not all bad news out there!

Last week’s stock market rally provided a glimmer of hope that we may have reached the bottom of this downturn. Furthermore, savvy shoppers are realizing that there are some unprecedented deals to be had right now. Piaget Possession Watches: Brilliant Feminine Luxury For Dress Or Everyday

Friday, March 13th, 2009

piaget-ladies-watch.jpgThe ability of Piaget to create consummately beautiful luxury watches for women is legendary.  Classic yet never stuffy, refreshingly creative, and flawlessly crafted, the Piaget ladies collection is brilliant across the range of collections.  One of Piaget’s newer introductions I particular admire is the Possession watch line.

Superbly versatile not just for the selection of metals it’s available in (pink, yellow, or white gold), the Piaget Possession watch radiates the kind of simple elegance that will make it a classic for years to come–no matter the occasion.  Two particularly appealing features of this Piaget timepiece are a case which allows convenient strap interchanges, enabling its user to go from materials such as alligator leather to satin, and the charming rotating bezel adorned with a single sparkling round brilliant diamond.  This bezel design is not just a clever way to produce a different appearance at a twist of the fingertips, but a genuinely useful feature than can be used to mark off an appointment you don’t want to forget.  Proof that dress watches don’t need a serious visage to be lovely is found in the delightful Possession dials with their dreamily strung-together Arabic figures.

Of course, Piaget would not be Piaget if it didn’t offer its clients breathtaking haute joaillerie versions.  Needless to say, these exquisite diamond-set Possession watches are the quintessence of the formal evening watch.  Most luminous of all is the ravishing white gold model with dial entirely paved with baguette diamonds.

Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Diver Titanium Watches: Strong On Luxury, Versatility, And Performance

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

ulysse-nardin.jpgFew luxury watches can appear appealing in such a diverse array of metals and dial configurations as Ulysse Nardin’s versatile Maxi Marine Diver.  Steel, rose gold, or on a rubber strap or bracelet–it just doesn’t matter.  If you chose to close your eyes, and
place your finger somewhere on the open Ulysse Nardin Marine catalog to resolve the dilemma of which version to choose, you’d end up with a high-end dive watch that defines high-end excellence and elegantly exotic design.

In 2009, titanium adds yet another dimension to the evergreen Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Diver watch.  You sometimes hear the complaint from watch lovers that titanium–while lightweight, strong, and technically cool–is not particularly attractive. While this is
certainly a subjective view, it doubtless has a lot to do with the fact that many titanium watches on the market feature a dull bead-blasted type of finish. You won’t see that on these new Maxi Marine Diver models–the titanium cases are polished to a brilliant
luster, just like the 18K or stainless steel versions.  With its invulnerability to corrosion, titanium is the ideal metal for a watch meant for use in and around salt water.  Here, it also manages to radiate beauty and luxury, just like the intricate wave-patterned dials, straps, and unidirectional bezels.

Ulysse Nardin is presenting these new Maxi Marine Diver models in all-titanium and titanium and rose gold models.  With how versatile the Maxi Marine Diver watch really is, choosing favorites can be pleasantly tough: I do find myself particularly drawn to the models with the silver dials, which are a very attractive diversion from the archetypal black-dialed dive watch.  I also really like the accents of orange on the bezel and dials of the all-titanium models.
